Lahore: Black plum has a sweet and sour taste and is acidic and astringent in nature. Due to its acidic nature, it is usually sprinkled with salt before eating. It was introduced in the United States in 1999 in Florida. It is founded hardly in tropical regions of the subcontinent. This big evergreen tree is planted widely in the Cauvery delta in Tamil Nadu and Gangetic plains in India. It is also present in the Philippines, Thailand, and West Indies.

Fruit ripens on the tree and should be picked daily. It belongs to the family Myrtaceae and has different names according to the language of a specific region. Botanically is known as Syzygium cumini and it is produced on an evergreen plant that goes up to 20 feet in height.
