Salon-Quality Pedicure At Home and How to Get Soft Hands

Dubai: A good manicure and pedicure can easily last a month after which another one would be ideal. It is best to visit a parlor or nail salon to get an expert to work their magic on your hands and feet, but if circumstances don’t permit, then with a few essentials, you can whip up the perfect mani-pedi for yourself at home. Daily life, daily chores, and other things can lead to rough or overworked hands. Drying, peeling, or reacting with external factors can lead to dry and rough hands.

If you don’t take care of your hands, they start showing signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles. Your hands may also suffer due to excessive exposure to the sun or chemicals. Hot or humid climates can be another reason behind hard, rough, or dry hands. Luckily, there’s no need to worry. Use the following extremely easy home remedies to get back the soft hands you once had!

Follow the next few suggestions for a pedicure at home and you’ll be wiggling your toes with glee by the time you’re done.

Things you’ll need: Nail polish remover Shampoo Salt Foot scrub cream/ soap Pumice stone (jhaanwa) Nail brush Modelling clay (the kind used by kids in school) Nail file and clipper Cuticle removing stick Moisturising cream/ olive oil/ Vaseline Nail polish

Procedure: Remove any nail polish you may have on.

Fill a small tub with warm water; add a teaspoon of salt and a bit of shampoo to it to make it foamy. The salt adds a relaxing element to the pedicure.

Cut the nails and file them smooth. Do not file nails too short as that can lead to ingrown toenails.

Soak your feet in soapy water for about seven minutes.

Lift the right foot and rub with a foot scrub or any soap and scrub it with a pumice stone. Be sure to rub it well on the heel, on the outer edge of the foot, and under the big toe.

Scrub the nails well with a nail brush.

Cover the foot with modeling clay and let it dry while you repeat the same steps on the other foot. You can skip the clay if you lack the time or don’t have clay.

By the time you’ve covered the second foot with a mask of modeling clay, the first one will have dried. Rub it vigorously until it starts to peel off. Then soak the foot in the water again and clean any clay left on the foot.

Now take the cuticle stick and gently push cuticles back from around the edges of the nail. If you have a cuticle clipper, you can trim off the dead skin around the edges of the nail bed but be careful not to cut yourself.

Massage the foot with a deep moisturizing cream, olive oil, or Vaseline.

Repeat with other foot

Apply a vibrant shade of nail color.

Put on a nice pair of sandals and show off your feet to their best advantage. For a manicure at home, you can repeat the same process on your hands except for scrubbing with a pumice stone. Use a facial or body scrub cream or a loofah instead.

There is a common misconception that manicures and pedicures are not meant for men. Men need them almost as much as women, if not more. While women generally follow an exfoliation/moisturizing routine at home, men don’t pay any attention to their skin. Also, the relaxing aspect of a pedicure and manicure is needed by men and women.

It takes a bit of effort to sit down and do something for your hands and feet, but every time you feel lazy about it, remind yourself that if you don’t take care of yourself, no one else will.
